About gross revenue for TikTok Shop Ads

Last updated: November 2024

For TikTok Shop Ads, gross revenue is the amount someone pays to purchase something from your TikTok Shop, plus platform price discounts, minus sales taxes.

If there are no TikTok Shop platform discounts, this will be equivalent to the final price someone pays, including any shipping costs, minus sales taxes.

Key concepts

  • Return on Ad Spend (ROAS): It is important to understand your return on ad spend (ROAS) for Shop Ads. Shop Ads ROAS is defined as the Total Gross Revenue attributed to an ad or ad group divided by the Total Cost for this ad or group of ads. ROAS measures how well your ad generates revenue for your business for every dollar you spend.

  • Gross Revenue and Gross Merchandise Value: If your ad's Gross Revenue is greater than your shop's Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), dashboards in the Seller Center may exclude certain TikTok Shop platform discounts from the GMV calculation.

    • In TikTok Ads Manager, Gross Revenue = Customer Payment - Sales Taxes + Platform Price Discount

    • In Seller Center, GMV = Customer Payment

    • Gross Revenue = GMV - Sales Taxes + Platform Price Discount

Note: In Seller Center, the terms Revenue and Income might be used interchangeably with GMV. Learn more about shop ads metrics in Seller Center.
