How to edit your assets in the TikTok Video Editor

When creating your video, you may want to edit some of your video's assets by doing the following:

  • Trim and adjust length

  • Crop videos and images

  • Adjust the volume levels of your music and videos

  • Add a mask


Before you begin

  • Learn how to add assets to the TikTok Video Editor.

  • You may find it helpful to assemble your edits in full-screen editing mode. To access the full screen, click the Full Screen toggle on the top right corner of the media track.


How to trim or adjust assets on the timeline

  1. Select a media track and then grab the end handles to isolate or extend the desired footage.

  2. Right-click on that desired footage on the track, then choose split, cut, duplicate, paste, delete, or separate audio.


How to crop video and images

  1. Click the media track you wish to crop.

  2. Click the Crop icon in the tool bar or video preview area.

  3. Select an aspect ratio to crop your footage from custom, 9:16, 1:1, or 16:9.

  4. From the preview area, use your mouse to position the cropping frame and use the corners to change its size.

  5. Then Confirm your crop.


How to adjust the volume of a video or audio track

  1. Click the media track to pull up the editing options.

  2. Adjust the volume using the slider.


How to create a mask

  1. Select a video track.

  2. Click one of the mask shapes: none, rectangle, or oval.


How to preview and export your video

  • You can click the TikTok preview icon to see the video as it will appear on the TikTok feed with TikTok UI elements.

  • Click Export when you are ready to export your video to your asset library.
