How to authorize affiliate product changes for video codes

Last updated: September 2024

When you share video codes with affiliate product links to be used in Video Shopping Ads, you can choose whether or not an ad can change the product links. If product link changes are allowed, ads may feature products other than the products linked in the original post. You can adjust this setting in the TikTok app.

Note: This feature may not be available to you yet.

Before you begin

How to authorize affiliate product changes for video codes

To authorize affiliate product changes for video codes:

  1. Open the TikTok app.

  2. Find the affiliate post you want to authorize and tap the three dots.

  3. Tap Ad settings.

  4. Turn on Ad Authorization. You can adjust how long the ad authorization is active.

  5. Find Affiliate product change authorization and tap the toggle to turn this feature on or off.

Turn the feature on to allow advertisers to use the same or different products in their ads. Turn this feature off if you want ads to only feature the product link you chose for your post. For example, if you create a post that links to Products A and B that belong to Shop 1, and Product C that belongs to Shop 2 and turn product change authorization off:

  • If Shop 1 creates an ad for Product A, the ad will only be able to link to Product A.

  • If Shop 1 creates an ad for Product B, the ad will only be able to link to Product B.

  • If Shop 1 creates an ad for Products A and B, the ad will only be able to link to Products A and B.

  • If Shop 2 creates an ad for Product C, the ad will only be able to link to Product C.

To share the video code with an advertiser, go to Video code and tap Generate. You can then send the video code to the advertiser. Learn how advertisers can use an affiliate video code in Video Shopping Ads.

Note: If a post loses a product link because the product's affiliate collaboration ended, your ad will continue to run until the video code expires.

About affiliate commissions and product change authorization

Allowing advertisers to change product links in affiliate posts may result in the promotion of products you don't showcase, so orders generated by some posts may not qualify to pay an affiliate creative commission. Only video codes for posts that contain an affiliate product link may generate affiliate commissions.

If an ad uses a video code for a post that doesn't contain an affiliate product link, then no commission will be applied to the GMV of the ad. If an ad uses a video code for a post that does contain an affiliate product link, the commission may be applied to the GMV of the ad for products with active affiliate plans.
