How to set up Audience Controls in TikTok Ads Manager

Audience Controls allow you to set targeting constraints due to compliance or business availability to all new ads in your account. Follow the steps to set up Audience Controls in TikTok Ads Manager.


Note: You can edit audience settings during campaign creation and will be notified that the change will be beyond the scope of Audience Controls.

Before you begin

Before you set up Audience Controls in TikTok Ads Manager, ensure your account has Edit permissions for the ads. Accounts with Read-only permissions can see the settings.

How to set up Audience Controls

To set up Audience Controls in TikTok Ads Manager:

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager.

  2. Go to the Tools tab and click Audience controls in the Settings section.

  3. Set your preferences for the following targeting parameters. Options can remain blank or you can choose a combination:

    1. Choose Location by selecting a country or multiple countries.

    2. Choose 18 or 25 as the Minimum Age.

    3. In the Exclude Audience section, you can select Custom or Lookalike audiences.

  4. Click Save.


When you create a new ad in TikTok Ads Manager, the notice of Audience Controls will be in the Audience targeting section. The selected Audience Control settings will prepopulate, but they can be overridden during campaign creation:

  • Location: Pre-filled with location inclusion

  • Age: Age range below the minimum age deselected

  • DMP audience exclusion: pre-filled with account level audience exclusion
