Best practices for Advanced Matching for Web

With Advanced Matching, you can match customer information to certain actions you measure on your website.

To get the most out of Advanced Matching:


Use both Manual and Automatic Advanced Matching if possible.Manual and Automatic Advanced Matching are both useful, so using them both for the same campaign can maximize the benefit you receive. Manual Advanced Matching requires coding and developer resources to fully implement. Learn how to set up Manual Advanced Matching.

  • If you don't have the resources to set up Manual Advanced Matching, you will still benefit from using Automatic Advanced Matching alone. You can turn on the automatic version with a few clicks in Events Manager. Learn how to set up Automatic Advanced Matching.


Install the TikTok Pixel on web pages where you want to use Automatic Advanced Matching.

Automatic Advanced Matching only works on web pages with the pixel installed, and works best on pages where you collect first-party customer data. Some common pages where customer information is being captured include login, registration, checkout as a guest, checkout while logged in, newsletter signups, and promotion signup.


Prior to installing the TikTok pixel on your web page, we recommend reviewing the data being collected on the page and ensure it aligns with our data-sharing policies and does not include data that may be deemed sensitive such as drivers license number, SSNs, or prohibited health or financial information.


Capture customer information as frequently as possible for Manual Advanced Matching.

We recommend sending all supported customer parameters for every event that you measure on your website. We also recommend capturing customer information or first-party data as early in the funnel as possible. For example, through a login mechanism on your website.

  • Maximize the benefits of Advanced Matching with Cookies. We recommend that both Automatic and Manual Advanced Matching solutions are paired with cookies for optimal performance. Third-Party Payment Platforms

Ideal when customer information is provided directly to third party payment platforms during checkout, including PayPal, AfterPay, ShopPay, AmazonPay, and Google Pay.

Ideal if you don't have access to the website's code and no technical resource to support Manual Advanced Matching.
