TikTok is unifying its Standard Event names across Web, Offline, and CRM channels to simplify your event setup and align with industry standards. This guide explains what is changing, why it matters, and how to adopt these updates so you can continue measuring performance effectively. These updates take effect for Web/Offline/CRM on May 1 2025; App changes follow in the H2 2025. Learn more about supported standard events.
Make sure you understand the following points before making any changes to your event setup:
Soft-Deprecated Events: ClickButton and PlaceAnOrder
Fully supported until 2027.
If you already use them, there’s no need to make immediate updates or rename these events.
We recommend using other events (e.g., Lead, Purchase, ViewContent) for new setups, because ClickButton and PlaceAnOrder will be removed from documentation in 2025, and sunset in 2027.
Renamed Events: SubmitForm renamed to Lead, CompletePayment renamed to Purchase
Existing setups remain operational. You do not have to rename any code.
Any new Pixel setup should use Lead or Purchase instead of the legacy names.
Legacy names are auto-converted on the backend and display updated names in reporting, audience creation, and optimization.
New Event Types: StartTrial, SubmitApplication, ApplicationApproval
Ideal for subscription or application-based lead generation objectives.
Use StartTrial to measure trial initiations, SubmitApplication to understand application submissions, and ApplicationApproval to measure final confirmation of an application.
No Immediate Changes Required
Existing events continue to function as-is.
Consider updating your setup only if you want to align with the new naming standards sooner.
Open Event Manager in your TikTok Ads Manager account to see all events currently linked to your Pixels or offline data sources.
Identify any events labeled ClickButton or PlaceAnOrder. Decide if you wish to continue using them (support continues until 2027) or switch to more relevant events (e.g., Purchase, Lead, ViewContent).
Note: historical data can not be transferred from ClickButton or PlaceAnOrder to new events.
Look for events named Lead or Purchase. These are your previously created SubmitForm or CompletePayment events. You can keep these names in your pixel code, but for any newly created Pixels, use Lead or Purchase to match TikTok’s updated standards.
If your business involves subscription trials or application processes for lead generation objectives, create new events using StartTrial, SubmitApplication, or ApplicationApproval:
Click Add Events or Edit in the Pixel details page within Events Manager and use Custom Code or Event Builder.
Create the appropriate new event and configure relevant parameters (such as value, currency) for accurate measurement.
Save the changes and wait a short while for them to appear in reporting. Existing events will remain active, while newly created events will appear as distinct entries in the event list.
Following these steps ensures your setup reflects TikTok’s unified naming conventions without losing historical data or interrupting existing campaigns. There is no urgent action required, ClickButton and PlaceAnOrder events will continue to work until they are retired in 2027, and SubmitForm and CompletePayment will be supported indefinitely. If you want to align sooner with best practices or introduce new event types (like StartTrial and SubmitApplication), simply add or update events through Event Manager after May 1st 2025.
