How to create Spark Ads for Smart+ Campaigns in TikTok Ads Manager

You can use Spark Ads to leverage organic TikTok posts and their features in your advertising. Each TikTok Ads Manager account can support a maximum of 10,000 Spark Ads. You are able to select Spark Ads along with other ad formats when you are creating an ad for Smart+ campaigns. Sources for Spark Ads creatives

There are two types of Identity available for creating Spark Ads:

  • Identity Type 1: Use your own linked TikTok account.

  • Identity Type 2: Use authorized accounts (authorized through Business Center) or Posts (authorized via video codes).

To create a Spark Ad, you must select a TikTok account as your identity for your Spark Ad. The three methods for sourcing authorized Spark Ads creatives for your ad include:

  1. When creating a campaign, you can link to a TikTok account (such as your in-house organic TikTok account or a creator's account) and select from available creatives from your authorized identities.

  2. Creators can choose to provide a code to authorize using their post in your Spark Ad. Creators can find the authorization code in the TikTok app by going to the video that they want to share, tapping the three dots on the video, tapping on the Ad settings icon, and tapping Generate to retrieve the TikTok post code.

  3. You can push new posts from TikTok Ads Manager to a selected identity (TikTok account) authorized through TikTok Business Center. Learn more about how to link a TikTok account for Spark Ads delivery.


How to create Spark Ads for Smart+ Campaigns on TikTok Ads Manager

To create Spark Ads for Smart+ Campaigns on TikTok Ads Manager:

  1. Select an advertising objective.

  2. Complete campaign and ad group settings.

  3. Choose the creatives you wish to pull or push as Spark Ads and click Add videos or images to open the creative selection drawer, which will include your TikTok posts and library.

    1. You cannot edit a post's caption after it’s been authorized as an ad. Please make sure the ad caption is the final version when creating Spark Ads.

    2. A private video will become public once it is used in a campaign, and the video privacy status cannot be changed during promotion (however, you can turn on the TikTok Ads Only Mode).

For Pull:

  1. Choose the TikTok Post tab, and select the designated post you want to use in Spark Ads.

  2. Click Add Post in the top right corner to authorize new posts as Spark Ads. Note: We support a batch authorization of video codes of up to 20 at a time. Additionally, there will be an authorization period for you to review beneath each post.

    • Note: A video code can only be deleted when all the ads this video is used in are deleted in TikTok Ads Manager.

  3. After you select the video, click Confirm.

  4. Complete the rest of the ad settings.

  5. Click Submit to publish your Spark Ad.

For Push:

  1. Choose the Your Library tab, and select the creatives from your library or upload videos or images to your library.

    • Note: For Push Spark Ads, after confirming the creative selection, you will need to Connect a TikTok account to determine how you present your business in your TikTok ads.

  2. After you select the video or image, click Confirm.

    • Note: You can combine Spark Ads and Non-Spark Ads within the same ad group. You can select creatives from multiple identities instead of being limited to just one TikTok identity at a time.

  3. Complete the rest of the ad settings and click Submit to publish your Spark Ads.

Note: Once the ad passes ad review, the pushed video will be published under your linked business account in private mode. You can manually make it public in the TikTok app.

To create Spark Ads on TikTok Ads Manager by using Authorized Accounts or posts from other creators:

  1. Ensure that Authorized Posts are allowed for the creator within the creator's profile in the TikTok app.

    1. Click Settings and Privacy and select Privacy.

    2. Alternatively, click Me and select Creator tools.

  2. Select and authorize a video for promotional use from the TikTok app.

  3. Select a TikTok post to authorize.

  4. Tap the three dots.

  5. Tap Ad Settings.

  6. Agree to Advertising Content Terms or Service.

  7. Turn on the Ad authorization toggle.

  8. Generate a video code.

  9. From the chosen post’s ad settings module, select the authorization duration (7, 30, 60, or 365 days).

  10. Tap Copy Code to share the code with the advertiser.

  11. Once you have received the video code from a creator, enter that code on TikTok Ads Manager.

  12. From TikTok Ads Manager, go to Tools.

  13. Under the Creative tab, click Creative library.

  14. Click Spark ads posts.

  15. Click Apply for Authorization.

  16. Paste the video code in the search bar and click Search.

To create Spark Ads using videos made by two creators, such as Duets and Stitched posts, you will need to enter video authorization codes from both creators featured in the videos:

  1. If it applies, enter the video code from the 2nd creator/account into the search bar and click Search. When the system confirms this is a dual creator post, enter the video code from the first creator’s original post.

  2. Review the post and click Confirm.

  3. From TikTok Ads Manager, at the Campaign Level, select an Advertising Objective. Complete Campaign and Ad Group settings.

  4. At the Ad Level, under ad details, click the + Add existing button and then click the TikTok posts tab to select your creative.

  5. Complete the rest of the ad settings.

  6. Click Submit.

To apply for a new post authorization:

  1. Click +Authorize TikTok Post.

  2. Enter the video code of the new authorized post.

  3. Select the TikTok account that authorized the post.
