TikTok Ads Manager allows you to create Dedicated Campaigns that will exclusively target iOS 14+ users. While Dedicated Campaigns provide a solution to exclusively target users of iOS 14+ devices, there are some product features in the campaign and ad creation process that are impacted.
This article covers how to create, manage, and access reports for Dedicated Campaigns.
A key feature of Dedicated Campaigns is that you can only have 11 Dedicated Campaign IDs for each iOS app registered with TikTok Ads Manager. To help you manage your dedicated campaigns for each of your iOS apps, we've created a set of statuses to track your quota of iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns.
These statuses will be referenced in various locations on TikTok Ads Manager and include the following:
Available Campaigns: Dedicated Campaigns that are available to use in new campaigns.
Campaign In Use: Dedicated Campaigns that are currently being delivered or scheduled.
Available After Reset: Recently paused or deleted campaigns need 72 hours to be released before they become available.
Note: An iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign must be manually deleted or paused in order to be Available After Rest, if it simply runs out of budget or expires, it will remain in use. For example, in the table below - see how the availability of dedicated campaigns changes after it is created, runs out of budget, is deleted, and then resets.
These statuses will be referenced in various locations on TikTok Ads Manager and include:
Ad group Quota in Use: The quota of dedicated ad groups that are in use.
Available Ad group Quota: The dedicated ad group quota that can be used.
Note:
Dedicated ad groups cannot be deleted, though you can delete dedicated campaigns.
When a dedicated ad group is paused, an ad group quota will be released.
You can check the availability of an iOS app's Dedicated Campaigns from the Events Manager or when creating an Ad Group.
From the TikTok Ads Manager Dashboard go to Assets, click Event, and click In-App Events.
Select an iOS app.
Under Tracking Settings you will see Dedicated iOS Campaign Limit - this will display the status of your app's dedicated campaign limits.
Create a campaign and select App Installs or Catalog Sales as the advertising objective.
Under the Promotion App or Product choose an iOS app to promote.
Then enable the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign toggle. This will trigger a message to appear that will detail the dedicated campaign availability for that app.
To see a more detailed breakdown, click the link to go to Events Manager.
Creating a Dedicated Campaign is nearly identical to creating a regular campaign, you will select an objective, build an ad group, and create your ads. However, there are some fields that must be entered at the Ad Group level and some features that are entirely unsupported by Dedicated Campaigns.
Note: A Dedicated Campaign can only support 2 Ad Groups. There are two main considerations that must be implemented at the Campaign level to create a Dedicated Campaign.
You must choose a supported Advertising Objective
You cannot use Split Test unless you are beta-testing the feature.
The following objectives support iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns:
App Installs
Catalog Sales
Note:
The Conversions objective does not support delivery to iOS 14+ devices when the promotion type is set to an iOS app.
The Traffic objective fully supports delivery to iOS 14+ devices and does not require a dedicated campaign, even when the Promotion Type is set to an iOS app. But you will receive incomplete conversion event data for iOS 14 traffic.
Once you select App Installs, Catalog Sales, or Conversions as your Advertising Objective, you will receive a notification informing you that Apple's iOS 14 release may impact ad delivery.
Split Test is available for up to 2 iOS 14 dedicated campaigns. Split Tests count towards the 11 campaign quota.
Note: A Dedicated Campaign can only support 2 ad groups.
Once you've selected a supported Advertising Objective at the Campaign level, you'll need to enable the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign toggle at the Ad group level. To do this you will need to:
Select an iOS app under the Promotion App or Product field.
Enable the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign toggle.
Configure the Ad group's targeting.
To create a Dedicated Campaign you will need to first select an iOS app under the Promotion App (for App Install campaigns) or Product field (for Catalog Sales campaigns). This step will be identical to creating a regular campaign.
Note: You can only enable Dedicated Campaigns for iOS apps if your mobile measurement partner supports using SKAdNetwork and the app is verified. After selecting an iOS app from the Promotion App or Product fields, a toggle will appear that will enable you to create a Dedicated Campaign.
Once this toggle is enabled, you will see a column that indicates the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign and Ad group Limit for that app.
There are no targeting selections that must be implemented in order to publish an iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign. However, there are some options in the Targeting module that will be unavailable.
Audiences
For the Catalog Sales objective, you will be unable to use app retargeting in iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns, as such, this option will be greyed out in the Targeting module.
For the Traffic objective, the option to "Target people who have already installed your app" will be removed when you select an iOS app as the Promotion Type. This is regardless of iOS 14+ or iOS 14- ads.
OS Versions
If you are promoting an iOS app, your ability to target users based on their mobile operating system depends on whether or not the campaign objective is supported by dedicated campaigns:
Campaign Objectives Not Supported by iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns
Conversion objective that promote an iOS app: Only iOS 14- versions are applicable.
Traffic objectives that promote an iOS app: There is no limitation on the ability to target by OS version.
For campaigns that do not promote an app: You will able to target OS version without restrictions.
Campaign Objectives Supported by iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns
If you are creating a campaign that supports iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns you will need to enable it to target devices that are iOS 14.0 and above.
If you do not enable the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign toggle, you will only be able to target up to iOS 14.4.
There are no requirements that need to be met to create ads for iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns. However, due to Apple's iOS 14 policies - Deferred Deeplinks are not supported, and you will be unable to include them in your iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign's ads.
For most campaigns, the campaign management features will remain the same. But for campaigns that use the App Installs, Conversion, or Catalog Sales objectives, Apple's iOS 14 policies will impact how they are managed on TikTok Ads Manager.
To help you better manage your marketing from TikTok Ads Manager's Campaign tab, we have developed several ways to identify campaigns, ad groups, and ads that are affected by Apple's iOS 14 Policies.
Firstly, we have added an icon to affected campaigns, ad groups, and ads on the Campaign tab. Hovering your mouse over this icon will pull up a message informing you how Apple's iOS 14 policies may impact ad delivery to iOS 14 devices.
Secondly, when editing affected campaigns, ad groups, and ads, we have added a notice that will inform you that Apple's iOS 14 policies will impact your ability to reach iOS 14 devices.
The editing process is generally the same as before; however, there are a few considerations listed below:
At the Campaign Level: You cannot edit a campaign to add a Split Test to a dedicated campaign. This option will be greyed out.
At the Ad group Level: You will be unable to turn off the iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign toggle. This means a dedicated campaign cannot be changed to a normal one.
TikTok Ads Manager does not support copying a dedicated campaign at the Campaign level. However, you can copy the ad groups and ads from a dedicated campaign. To copy the ad group of a dedicated campaign, it will need to be copied to a new campaign. This differs from copying a normal or non-dedicated campaign, which can be copied to an existing campaign.
| For Dedicated Ad group | For Non-Dedicated Ad group |
To New Campaign | ✅ | ✅ |
To Existing Campaign | ✅ Note: If a dedicated ad group is copied to an existing non-dedicated campaign, the button iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign will be turned OFF and no change can be made. | ✅ Note: If a non-dedicated ad group is copied to a dedicated campaign, the button iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign will be turned ON and no change can be made. |
1. Go to the Campaign tab.
2. Click the Ad group list.
3. Find an Ad group that belongs to an iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign - use the Filters function to quickly find them.
4. Locate an Ad group to copy and click the three dots and choose Copy.
5. Because the number of Ad groups supported by an iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign is 1, you will be unable to change the number of copies.
6. Next, choose where the New Copy Goes To, you must select New Campaign
7. To finish copying the ad group, click Duplicate
Note: If a dedicated ad group is copied to an existing non-dedicated campaign, the button iOS14 Dedicated Campaign will be turned OFF and no change can be made.
1. Go to the Campaign tab.
2. Click the Ad group tab.
3. Find an Ad group that belongs to a Regular Campaign – use the Filters function to quickly find them.
4. Locate the Ad group to copy, click the three dots, and choose Copy.
5. Select the number of copies of the Ad group to make.
6. Determine where to copy the Ad groups.
Note:
If a non-dedicated ad group is copied to a dedicated campaign, the button "iOS 14 Dedicated Campaign" will be turned ON and no change can be made
The number of copies must be filled in with "1" to copy a non-dedicated ad group to a dedicated campaign. If the number is larger than 1, dedicated campaigns cannot be selected in the campaign list.
7. To finish, click Duplicate.
When copying an ad, you have the option to duplicate the ad in a new campaign or an existing campaign. If you opt to copy the ad to an existing campaign, you will then get to determine if you want to copy the ad to an existing or a new ad group.
| For Dedicated Ad | For Non-Dedicated Ad |
To Campaign Level | New Campaign: ✅ Existing Campaign: ✅ | New Camapgin: ✅ Existing Campaign: ✅ |
To Ad group Level | New Ad group: ❌ Existing Ad group: ✅ | New Ad group: ✅ Existing Ad group: ✅ |
1. Go to the Campaign tab.
2. Click the Ad list.
3. Locate the Ad to copy, click the three dots, and choose Copy.
4. To copy an ad in a dedicated campaign to a new campaign:
Select New Campaign in the Duplicate ads to the column and click Confirm.
5. To copy an ad in a dedicated campaign to an existing campaign, do the following:
Select Existing Campaign.
Then choose Existing Ad group.
You will be unable to select Duplicate ads to new ad group.
When hovering over the button New Ad group, you'll see a notice: "Each campaign can only contain 2 ad groups. Learn More."
Click Confirm.
The process of duplicating a regular ad will be the same, but there will be no restrictions on the ability to duplicate the ad to an Existing Campaign and a New Ad group.
The process and requirements of deleting a campaign or ad group for iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns will be the same as regular campaigns, with one exception. You cannot delete the ad group that belongs to a Dedicated Campaign.
Level | Deletable? | Note |
Campaign | ✅ | 1. When deleting a dedicated campaign, the ad group and ads in this campaign will be deleted, too. 2. Deleting a campaign does not affect the data history of this campaign. |
Ad group | ❌ | NA |
Ad | ✅ | 1. Deleting an ad does not affect the data history of this ad. |
The deleting process is generally the same as the normal one. However, when a dedicated campaign is deleted or paused, the campaign ID will be available again 72 hours after deleting or pausing the campaign. To delete a campaign, follow the instructions below:
Access the Campaign tab.
Select the Campaign list.
Check the box next to the campaign you wish to delete.
Select Delete from the drop-down menu next to the create button.
You will be unable to delete the ad group that belongs to a dedicated campaign. This option will be greyed out and unclickable when trying to delete an ad group from the Ad group list.
There will be reporting updates made for dedicated iOS 14 campaigns, most notably the inclusion of SKAN-related metrics.
Note:
SKAN-relevant indexes might be inaccurate because of Apple's restrictions.
The transition of SKAN-relevant data to the users' end may take 24-72 hours after the data is generated. This delay is notified in the "Custom Columns" section in Campaign List page as follows.
In the App Tracking Transparency framework, data generated from iOS 14+ users will be included in SKAN-relevant indexes.
On the TikTok Ads Manager Dashboard, the columns Trends and Campaign are updated to include (SKAN) related metrics. Please see below:
When a dedicated campaign is created in the ad account, CPA(SKAN), Conversion(SKAN), and CVR(SKAN) indexes are added in the Trends and Campaign column. The user can select these indexes to view details.
When you select a certain day as the time range in the Trends column, CPA (SKAN), Conversion (SKAN), and CVR (SKAN) indexes will not be selectable and there will be a notice that SKAN metrics can't be broken down by the hour due to SKAdNetwork(SKAN) limitations.
CPA (SKAN), Conversion (SKAN), and CVR (SKAN) indexes are also added in Custom Columns in Campaign.
On the Campaign tab, the Campaign, Ad group List, and Ad List have been updated with new metrics. This update applies only when a dedicated campaign is created in the ad account. The updates related to Campaign, Ad group, and Ad List are about the Custom Columns feature and View Data features.
The user can click Custom Columns to view the updates.
In the Basic Data column, these indexes are added:
Result (SKAN)
Cost per result (SKAN)
Result rate (SKAN)
Conversion (SKAN)
CPA (SKAN)
CVR (SKAN)
A new column In-App Event (SKAN) is added below In-App Event in the Performance section in Custom Columns as the illustration shows
In "In-App Event (SKAN)", the user can select the following dimensions:
Unique Events
Unique CPA
Conversion Rate
Total
CPA
Total Value
The indexes CPA (SKAN), Conversion (SKAN), and CVR (SKAN) are added to the right of CPA, Conversion, and CVR.
In the Daily column, SKAN-relevant indexes cannot be broken down by hour. When hovering over the question mark, there will be a notice SKAN metrics can not be broken down by the hour due to SKAdNetwork (SKAN) limitations.
Note: This update only applies to Campaign List and Ad group List. Ad List is not impacted.
In the Breakdown column, the user can view the data by Ad Group. Other options are not clickable. When hovering over other options, there will be a notice "Due to Apple's policy, SKAN metrics can't be broken down into certain dimensions".
When a dedicated campaign is created in the ad account, the user will see the Campaign tab added under Settings in the Dimensions section if you customize your reports per the following illustration.
Note:
1. When you select CPA (SKAN), Conversion (SKAN), or CVR (SKAN) in the Metrics section, Ad, Targeting, and Product tabs in the Dimensions section will not be clickable.
2. When you select Ad, Targeting, or Product tabs in the Dimensions section, CPA (SKAN), Conversion (SKAN), or CVR (SKAN) in the "Metrics" section will not be available.
In the Asset Analysis Report on your Creative tab, you can still generate reports that include key performance metrics about creative assets, but certain metrics from iOS 14 Dedicated Campaigns will not be included, including Conversions, CPA, CVR, and In-App Event metrics.
