How to create Video Shopping Ads for your Catalog

Video Shopping Ads are powered by your product catalog. It allows you to offer specific product recommendations on the For You page and multiple placements to boost product sales on your website.

Before you begin

  • Create a catalog with products. You will need at least four deliverable (in stock, approved, and activated) products to run a Video Shopping Ad.

  • Create video assets or carousel and template videos from your catalog.

How to create Video Shopping Ads

To create video shopping ads:

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager.

  2. Navigate to a new campaign or to the ad level of an existing campaign.

  3. Under the campaign, select Product Sales as the advertising objective. Complete the setup of your campaign, ad group, or ad.

  4. Under the ad level, navigate to products. You can choose from the following:

    1. All products (default selection).

    2. Product set

    3. Manually select products.

  5. Select your ad creative. You can choose from multiple formats, including single video, catalog carousel, or template video.

    1. Note: you can also select all video designs. This will prioritize any videos that you added to your catalog by Video URL field and then use your catalog's video packages if there are none available for your product.

  6. Complete the setup of your ads and publish your campaign.


At the Ad Group level

  1. Choose your Optimization location (if your products are for sale on an App or Website).

    1. If you select App, choose your app from the drop-down menu.

    2. If you select Website, choose your pixel and select an optimization event.

    3. If you would like to optimise towards Traffic, leave TikTok Pixel and Optimization event blank.

  2. Choose your ad placement TikTok, Pangle, or Automatic.

  3. Under Targeting, choose your Audience.

    1. Select Retarget Audience to show specific product ads to people who expressed interest in them on your website or app.

      • If using a Retarget Audience, you will need to select the events you want to include or exclude from your audience and the time frame those events occurred.

      • You also have the ability to include or exclude a custom audience from your Retarget Audience.

    2. Select Find Prospective Customers to show your product ads to new potential customers.

      • If using a Find Prospective Customers audience, you can select Custom Audiences and Lookalike Audiences to include or exclude from your targeting.

      • If you are selling your products on an app, we recommend that you create a Custom Audience from people who have installed your app and exclude them from your Find Prospective Customers Audience.

  4. Complete the remainder of your ad group's selections (e.g. Budget, schedule, bidding & optimization preference).
