How to create a Catalog

A catalog is a type of asset on TikTok Ads manager that allows you to store and manage information about your products. You'll be able to add product names, descriptions, prices, images, videos and more which you can use to automatically generate ads.


Adding more details about your products will make it easier to manage your catalog and deliver personalized product recommendations.

How to create a Catalog

To create a Catalog:

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager.

  2. Click Assets.

  3. Select Catalog.

  4. Click Create.

  5. Enter your Catalog information. You'll enter the following details:

    • Catalog Name.

    • Select a Default Currency from the drop-down menu. The selected currency must match the currency of your listed products.

    • Choose a Targeting location. This will be the only location you can target with ads featuring the products in your catalog.

  6. Click Create.

  7. Review the catalog template.

    • Navigate to your Catalog.

    • Click Manage.

    • Click Products.

    • Click Add Products.

    • Click Download Template. Note: There are 9 required and 27 optional product parameters to add a product to your catalog. Learn more about product parameters.

    • Enter your product level information in the format of the catalog template.

  8. Click Add Products. You can select from the following methods:

    • Manually Add: Fill out a simple form for each product you wish to add. Enter the information for each field (all fields are required, except Video URL). Click +Add to create an entry for another product. Once you've added your products, click Import.

    • Data Feed Schedule: Automatically add products from an online file, according to a schedule. Add your data feed name, URL (if password protected, add your login details). Select an upload frequency, choose an update method, and click Import.

      • Note: The supported file formats are: CSV, XML (RSS), XML (Atom), ZIP, GZ (GZ files compressed with the tar command are not supported). The file size must be less than 50GB and the number of products must be less than 20 million.

    • Upload File: Use a template to upload product files. Enter a name for your Data Feed, Upload your file from your desktop. Use Check files to ensure the fields were formatted correctly. Click Import.

  9. Click Next.

  10. Click Add Products to continue adding products.

    • Once you've added your products, you'll be able to create product sets that allow you to group your products by shared characteristics. By making product sets, you can promote specific products in a Catalog Sales campaign.

  11. Select Use Filters or Manually Select Products to create a product set. Now you'll be able to create catalog rules to automatically update product information in your catalog according to the TikTok Catalog Template.

    • Use Filters: Enter a Product Set Name and define how many rules a product must match. Create a series of filters to identify specific products. Click Add Another Filter Rule to create more rules. Click Confirm.

    • Manually Select Products: Enter a Product Set Name. Select your products and click Confirm.

  12. Select your Catalog.

  13. Click Product Sources.

  14. Click the product source name.

  15. Click Settings.

  16. Click Add Rules.

    • Use Value Replacement to replace a value in a specific column.

    • Use Set Default Value to add a default value to an empty column.

    • Use Mapping to transfer a value from an unsupported column in your data feed file to a supported column.

    • Use Change Capitalization to update the way that your strings are capitalized.

    • Use Regex Replace to replace an existing value within a column with a new one.

    • Click Apply. You can choose from the following:

      • Apply now: Only apply on the latest updated catalog once rules are created.

      • Save and apply: Apply on every catalog which is updated from then on.

      • Apply now and to future upload: Apply on the latest updated catalog and future catalogs updates.

Once you've created your catalog, you can use the catalog sales objective to automatically create ads featuring personalized product recommendations.
