Differences between affiliate mass authorization and video code authorization

Last updated: October 2024

Affiliate creators can grant authorization for their posts to be featured in Shop Ads and be eligible for affiliate creative commissions. Authorization can be granted for all videos and sellers, or for individual videos using a video code.

When you turn authorization on or off for individual video codes, this will not apply to all affiliate posts. If you turn authorization on or off for all affiliate posts at the account level, this will not affect authorization for individual video codes.

Affiliate Mass Authorization

Video Code Authorization

Definition

When a creator is an affiliate of many sellers, the creator allows all sellers to feature all of their affiliate posts in Shop Ads.

A creator may or may not be an affiliate; the creator allows an advertiser to run ads for only a particular post belonging to them.

Where to turn on authorization

TikTok Shop Creator Center in the TikTok App. Learn how to authorize affiliate videos for Shop Ads.

In the Settings menu for each affiliate post in the TikTok app.

Authorization scope

All of the creator's affiliate posts. When authorization is turned on, creators won't need to turn it on again for each post.

Individual affiliate posts. Each post requires a unique authorization video code to share with sellers.

How advertisers can use the post in Shop Ads

When you create Video Shopping Ads in TikTok Ads Manager, choose Affiliate Post as the video source. All authorized affiliate posts will appear in the menu. Learn more about how to use affiliate creative videos in Video Shopping Ads.

Can advertisers use a different product from the one linked in the affiliate post?

No. If an affiliate post has a product link, only the seller who listed the product can feature the product link in ads.

Yes.

What happens when a post loses its organic link due to the expiration of an affiliate collaboration or video code?

Ads will automatically pause if:

-The creator turns off Affiliate Mass Authorization

-The affiliate collaboration expires

-The affiliate post loses its organic product link

Ads will continue to run until the video code expires.

About commissions

Regardless of the authorization method, if the ad used an affiliate post, then the order may still generate commission for the affiliate creator. Learn more about affiliate creative commissions.

When to use video codes if you turned on authorization for all affiliate posts

If a creator turns on affiliate mass authorization for all posts, they will still need to share video codes with advertisers for:

  • Posts that don't have product links

  • Posts that have product links without an affiliate collaboration
