Oud Alayfie, based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was founded in 2013 by Mohammed Alyafie. The small business sells oud, oud oil, and incense. Oud is a rare and precious wood that’s native to the Middle East. Oud Alayfie cares that its customers get the right quality and price.​

Helping to build this trust with its customers is part of what makes TikTok the perfect partner for Oud Alayfie. Its goal was to increase followers and up engagement, like comments and shares. Its organic posts were natural behind-the-scenes videos. Simple, yet calming videos. Like the oud being unpacked, or gently smoking on an oud burner.​

Oud Alayfie had a small ad budget of 100 SAR (≈25 EUR) daily, which can go a long way with TikTok. Working closely with its TikTok account manager, Oud Alayfie wanted to use the period after the Eid al-Fitr festival in April 2023 as a relaxing time to engage followers with its calming, high-quality incense. And what better way to show off the natural, mesmerising side of Oud Alayfie’s products than through TikTok.


The solution

Smelling success by using Spark Ads and Automatic Targeting

The first part of the solution was to look at current trends on TikTok, and see what was hot in the product category and beyond. The next step was to look at the top performing posts in Oud Alayfie’s TikTok profile. Its natural, behind-the-scenes posts led to the perfect match with Spark Ads. Spark Ads let you promote your organic posts, and attribute any likes or comments to that organic post. In other words, it feels natural, and authentic – just like Oud Alayfie’s oud. Oud Alayfie also used Automatic Targeting in both Arabic and English in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.​

Of Oud Alayfie’s top performing organic posts, there were three great ones to use for Spark Ads. One showed oud chips as they poured into a gorgeous box. Another tapped into the ASMR-like trend as you hear the chips passing gently through a hand. While the third showed oud burning, viewers can almost smell the fragrance. These formed a perfect start-to-finish ensemble of videos. There are few things the TikTok community loves more than the joy of seeing inside the world of a product. Up close and personal. Tactile. Sensory, creative-inducing experiences. ​

On top of this, Oud Alayfie also partnered with creators on TikTok to help spread its message. The next step was to simply use Automatic Targeting, this way Oud Alayfie could get the most out of their results with a small ad budget. Automatic Targeting optimises the targeting settings, or audience, for the campaign.​


The results

Turning behind-the-scenes videos into big, red hot results

Thanks to Oud Alayfie’s natural and engaging Spark Ads, combined with the power of Automatic Targeting, the campaign proved to be a major success for the oud specialists. For example, one of the videos now has 1.9M views and counting. ​

Oud Alayfie discovered the importance of raising the brand’s profile on TikTok, and then transforming viewers into customers. It also learnt how growing followers helps to share its TikTok videos, plus how retargeting ​ can lead to great results. ​

As a consequence, Oud Alayfie gained 14,715 more followers. It also saw a low cost per follower of 0.21 SAR (0.052 EUR), and its follow rate rose 6.97%.
