The Objective

As an Australian-grown brand offering high quality and eye-catching fashion accessories, Poppy Lissiman wanted to connect with new audiences who matched their brand ethos. TikTok’s vibrant platform and audience aligned perfectly with Poppy Lissiman’s unique style, making it the ideal place to drive brand discovery, reach new customers, and boost engagement. To drive brand presence on the platform, they partnered up with e-commerce marketing agency, Elephant Room, to implement a digital strategy – using fresh and trendy videos, paired with a multi-touch advertising strategy to engage and convert users into customers. In November 2024, they wanted to test the effectiveness of retargeting audiences by nurturing web visitors with Catalog Ads to drive better conversion rates.


The Solution

To set them up for success, Elephant Room ensured that fundamental data connections are put in place to maximise the results of their TikTok ad campaigns. By installing the TikTok Pixel for Shopify on Poppy Lissiman’s website, events such as ‘Add to Cart’ or ‘Complete Purchase’ could be shared with their TikTok Ads Manager account to enhance campaign targeting and measure ad performance. Thereafter, they launched a Catalog Ads campaign, formerly known as Video Shopping Ads for Catalog, which allowed Poppy Lissiman to offer specific product recommendations through a product card anchored on their ads. By clicking on a call to action button, engaged users on the ‘For You’ page will be directed to the product page on the advertiser’s website to learn more information and make a purchase. 


With most customer journeys spanning more than a single ad exposure, Elephant Room put in place multiple touch points that would nurture viewers into customers over time. By splitting the Catalog Ads campaign into two groups – Prospecting and Retargeting – they would be able to test the hypothesis of achieving better conversion rates with increased brand and product awareness. An ad campaign with the ‘Traffic’ objective was launched, which drove users to their website to learn more about Poppy Lissiman and its product offerings. This allowed them to build audience signals and retarget users who have visited their website with Catalog Ads, promoting specific products that are relevant or have been viewed before. While Prospecting Catalog Ads showcases products to users who may not be familiar with the brand, Retargeting Catalog Ads would allow Poppy Lissiman to stay top-of-mind and influence purchase decisions.



The Results

Retargeting audiences proved to be effective, as the multi-layered Retargeting Catalog Ads campaign saw Cost per Action (CPA) lowered by 63% while clickthrough rates (CTR) increased by 337%, compared to that of the Prospecting Catalog Ads. Conversion rates (CVR) was also 250% higher when retargeting existing web visitors, demonstrating the effectiveness of nurturing engaged users with a multi-touch approach.


Since launching on TikTok, Poppy Lissiman has more than doubled its sitewide traffic and reached over 1.7 million users across Australia alone. TikTok for Business ad solutions have delivered lower CPMs and strong ROAS, with CPMs being 54% cheaper than other advertising platforms. The success on TikTok has fueled Poppy Lissiman’s growth to expand internationally, with ads also running in new markets outside of Australia. Their journey on TikTok demonstrates the power of blending trend-driven, native content with a full-funnel, data-driven strategy. By leveraging its advertising solutions and maximising the Shopify integration, Poppy Lissiman has seen TikTok become its key driver of growth, connecting with new customers and boosting sales across markets.
