Optimization events are specific actions users take on your website, such as adding items to a cart or completing a purchase. These events can be triggered by paid TikTok ads or organic (unpaid) interactions. Integration methods like the Events API and TikTok Pixel send these events to TikTok, allowing you to measure campaign performance, optimize ad delivery, and build target audiences.There are two types of events on TikTok:
Standard events: Predefined actions created by TikTok, used for reporting, optimizing conversions, and audience building. Standard events are compatible with all TikTok integration tools. Learn more about supported standard events.. Learn more about supported standard events.
Custom events: Actions that advertisers define themselves. You can set up custom events using the Event Builder in Events Manager or directly via the Pixel and Web Events API. Custom events are available for reporting and audience creation but are not currently supported for optimization.

The data connection and optimization event statuses rely on receiving event data from your website and server. However, the data processing pipeline is not immediate. Please allow up to 2 hours processing time between when TikTok receives event data and when these statuses are updated.This means that if you create a new data connection and attempt to set up a campaign right away, the data connection and optimization event may appear unavailable.
TikTok cross-validates the destination URL on the ad page with the optimization event on the ad group page. If no optimization events have been received from the domain of the destination URL in the past seven days, a warning will appear to alert you. This error may occur for several reasons:
The pixel is not installed on the landing page.
The pixel is installed, but no optimization event has been received.
The same pixel is used by more than 10 domains.
The pixel is installed within the contents of the website, such as an iframe.
There is a 2-hour data processing delay before the latest event data and status are updated in TikTok Ads Manager.
Click the Help button at the bottom of TikTok Ads Manager and provide screenshots of the error to open a support ticket.
This validation helps avoid mismatches where the data connection is set up for one website (e.g., website X) while the ad’s destination URL is set to another website (e.g., website Y). Such mismatches can lead to poor campaign performance due to incorrect conversion data.The warning does not prevent you from submitting campaigns. During the cross-validation process, TikTok compares the domain entered by the user with the top 10 high-traffic domains covered by the selected Pixel.
