About Automatic Payment
Last updated, March 2024

When you create your TikTok Ads Manager account, you must select a billing option. Your account's billing option will determine how and when your account is charged.

Note: After you have set your billing option to Automatic Payment, you will be unable to change it back to Manual Payment. The following changes are allowed:

  • Changing from Manual Payment to Automatic Payment

  • Changing from Manual Payment to Monthly Invoicing

  • Changing from Automatic Payment to Monthly Invoicing

With Automatic Payment, ad delivery charges will be automatically billed to your account when you reach your account's billing threshold or bill date - whatever comes first.

TikTok Ads Manager supports two bill dates: weekly and monthly. Your account's bill date will be based on your registration time and historical spending on the platform.

Set up Automatic Payment

You can choose Automatic Payment as your billing option when you create your TikTok Ads Manager account.

  1. To use Automatic Payment, you must have a valid payment method. We do not accept prepaid cards for Automatic Payment.

  2. When you add a payment method, it will automatically go through verification, and we will deduct at least 10 USD, or the equivalent in local currency, from your card and refund this charge within 15 days. This is needed to ensure that the card is valid.

You can add a payment method in either Business Center or Ads Manager.

To add a payment method in TikTok Ads Manager

Go to your Payment page in the TikTok Ads Manager page and add a supported Payment Method to your account, such as a credit or debit card.

Add a balance to your account

After you add a payment method to your account, you can add a balance to your account. To add a balance to your account:

  1. Go to your Payment page and select the Summary tab.

  2. Click Add Balance.

  3. Enter the Total Amount you wish to add.

  4. Select a Current Payment Method or choose a One-time payment method.

  5. Click Make Payment and follow the prompts to complete the transaction.

Once you complete the transaction, you will see your Account Balance in the following locations:

  • On the Summary tab on your Payment page

  • Under the Today's Spend module on your Dashboard

  • When you add a balance to your account, it will be used to pay for your autopay invoices.

    • For instance, let's say you've set up Automatic Payment and you add $100 USD to your account balance. If you spend $150 USD on TikTok ads, we'll deduct $100 USD from your account balance and charge the remaining $50 USD from the payment method associated with your ad account, based on its bill date or billing threshold.

Track spend so far

To track the amount of money you have spent since your last billing cycle:

  1. Go to the Payment page in the TikTok Ads Manager page and select the Transactions tab.

  2. Locate the Costs Tab.

  3. The Costs Tab will display the amount spent thus far in the ad account and can be filtered by different date ranges.

Note: Once there is an outstanding balance, as shown in the Spend So Far module in the Summary tab, you will only be able to pay this down via Automatic Payment. You can not add a balance to your account to pay off your Spend So Far. To pay the outstanding balance, please click on 'Pay now' on the payment page.

Pay Outstanding Payment

To pay outstanding payments in TikTok Ads Manager

  1. Go to your Payment page and select the Summary tab.

  2. Click Pay Now displayed on the page banner.

  3. Or go to your Transactions page and find the records of the failed payment, then click Pay Now.

To pay outstanding payments in Business Center

  1. Go to Finance and select Billing Page.

  2. Find the unpaid invoice and click Pay Now.

Track the billing threshold and bill date

After adding a payment method, you can track the billing threshold and bill date in TikTok Ads Manager and Business Center.

In Ads Manager, the billing threshold and bill date will appear on the Payment page. As you start running campaigns and delivering ads, you can track your total spend and your next bill date, from the Payment page.

To find the billing threshold and bill date in Business Center:

  1. Select Finance, and then Payment.

  2. Select Payment management.

  3. Go to the Threshold column.

Note: When you first set up Automatic Payment, you can expect a low billing threshold that will increase over time to reflect your actual spending. This is an automatic process that cannot be manually changed. Please note any failed payment may affect the billing threshold.

Examples of the billing cycle

The following examples are based on an account with a billing threshold of $180 and a bill date of September 12th.

  • Example 1:

    • September 10th: Daily Cost $185 + Unpaid Balance $0

      • The account will automatically be charged $180, because the account's daily spending of $185 is greater than the billing threshold of $180. $5 will be rolled over into the next billing cycle.

    • September 11th: Daily Cost $179 + Unpaid Balance $5

      • The account will automatically be charged $180 because the account's daily spending of $179 + the unpaid balance of $5 is greater than the billing threshold of $180. $4 will be rolled over into the next billing cycle.

    • September 12th: Daily Cost $0 + Unpaid Balance $4

      • The account will automatically be charged the total amount of the unpaid balance of $4 because the account's bill date was reached.

  • Example 2:

    • September 10th: Daily Cost $100 + Unpaid Balance $0

      • The account will not be charged because neither the bill date nor billing threshold was reached.

    • September 11th: Daily Cost $70+ Unpaid Balance $100

      • The account will not be charged because neither the bill date or billing threshold was reached.

    • September 12th: Daily Cost $0+ Unpaid Balance $170

      • The account will automatically be charged the total amount of the unpaid balance of $170 because the account's bill date was reached.

Manage Automatic Payment

Add multiple payment methods

TikTok Ads Manager supports adding multiple payment methods to your account. You can add additional payment methods and set one as your primary from the Payment page.

Note: Automatic Payment requires at least one payment method to be available at any time. It is not possible to remove a payment method unless a second payment method is present.

Check for failed payments

If the automatic deduction on your account's primary payment method fails, the system will automatically try to complete the transaction using your account's available payment methods.

You can check any outstanding balance on your account's Payment page and review the reason the payment failed. Once there is an outstanding balance on your account, the system will pause your campaigns and suspend your account.

To pay an outstanding balance, click Pay Now and use a saved payment method or a new one to complete the transaction. This is the only method to process an outstanding balance. Manually adding a balance to the account will not automatically address the outstanding balance. Once you have paid your outstanding balance, the paused campaigns will automatically resume.

Review transactions

To review all of the charges made by your account, go to your account's Transaction page. From there, you can see the transaction date, transaction type, details, and amount.

Download the invoice

Note:

  1. Only self-serve advertisers can download the invoice on TikTok Ads Manager. If you are non-self-serve advertisers, please contact your sales representatives for guidance on downloading invoices.

  2. In Japan, the invoices for Automatic Payment are provided monthly.

After successfully completing a payment, the system will send an invoice to the account's primary email address within 5 working days.

You can also download an invoice from the Transaction page.

Insufficient funds weekly notification

If you had a payment fail in the last 30 days due to insufficient funds and have unpaid costs, the system will send an email to the primary email address reminding you to make sure you have sufficient funds.

This email will be sent on Fridays at 10 a.m., in your account's timezone.

Optional: Set ad account spending caps with Budget Manager

You can set a cap on Automatic Payment for your ad accounts to help you plan your finances better. When the amount spent on an ad account reaches the pre-set budget (either monthly budget, daily budget, or a custom budget), the ads on that ad account will pause and stop consuming money. Your Automatic Payment thresholds will still apply, this simply adds a cap to give you more control over your spending.

For an existing owned ad account in your Business Center

Note: Budget Manager caps will not impact the delivery or performance of your ads. When your budget cap is reached, your ads will pause and no additional money will be spent. If an ad account reaches your monthly, daily, or custom budget cap, and you would like it to keep running, you'll need to increase your cap. You can increase your monthly budget cap up to 10 times per day.

  1. Go to Business Center, click Finance, and select Payment Management.

  2. Find the ad account you wish to change from Unlimited to a Budget Manager cap and click the Pencil icon.

  3. Click which option you would like to use: Monthly, Daily, or Custom.

  4. Enter the budget you'd like to use.

  5. Click confirm.

Enable Budget Manager Rule when creating a new ad account
