What is Budget Recommendation?

Budget Recommendation is a feature at the ad group level that suggests budgets to help maximize your chances of impressions. These budgets are separated by two tiers: sufficient and competitive. When your budget is too low, you may not gain enough impressions to drive conversions. Budget Recommendation estimates the minimum budget required to improve your chances of getting conversions. Budget Recommendation can also help you get to the competitive level required to optimally create conversions from these impressions.

Budget Recommendation can also help you fine tune your ad group by delivering an estimated amount of daily impressions based on your recommended budget. In addition, you can view your targeted audience size based on your settings.

Who can use Budget Recommendation?

Budget Recommendation is only available to self-serve advertisers who have not yet obtained any conversions. If you are a self-serve advertiser, you'll need to create an ad group with the following settings to become eligible to use Budget Recommendation:

How Budget Recommendation Works

Choosing different budget types

Budget Recommendation can be accessed from TikTok Ads Manager if you're eligible. Once you create or edit a new eligible ad group, you will see the Budget Suggestion tool in the Budget and Schedule module during the ad creation flow.

You'll now have the option to apply the recommended budget by clicking the Apply button. If you want to choose a specific budget type, sufficient or competitive, then you can click the hide button to reveal your desired budget type. Clickthe Apply button to finalize your choice.

Audience Size and Estimated Results

In the right column, you'll find Audience size, which states the number of users based on your settings. You'll also find that the audience size will correspond with the following tags:

  • Too narrow

  • Narrow

  • Balanced

  • Fairly Broad

  • Too Broad

Any adjustments to your budget will not reflect these tags in real-time because audience size is affected by your ad placement and targeting settings.

Note: If you are creating an ad, but idle on the page, your estimated audience size may fail since they aren't reflected in real-time. Please refresh the page to view your updated results.

In the bottom right column, you'll find Estimated results, which will estimate the number of daily impressions based on your targeting settings and budget. These results are not guaranteed and can still change daily even when the budget stays the same. This can be due to factors such as the behavior of the dynamic auction marketplace.

Note:

  • Delivery is paused when your ad group budget runs out.

  • When the sum of your ad group budget is greater than your current campaign budget, you should adjust your budget at the campaign level so that the campaign doesn't run out.

FAQs

Can I copy an ad group?

Budget recommendation is not supported when you copy an ad group, but only if you create or edit the new ad group.

Why am I not seeing an increase in daily impression estimates after increasing their budget?

Daily impression estimates are affected by multiple factors such as targeting, budget, and optimization event, which are unique to your setup. Lower-funnel events, such as checkout and completed payment, may require a higher budget and estimated impressions. Increasing your budget alone does not guarantee a proportional increase in impression estimates.

Daily impression estimates are subject to change even with the same budget because of factors such as the behavior of the dynamic auction marketplace.
