South Korea: About Value Added Tax (VAT)

Last updated: May 2026

Taxes may apply to your purchase of TikTok Ads depending on the country or region of your contracting address, unless otherwise specified. Your contracting entity under the TikTok for Business Advertising Terms will be either ByteDance LLC (ByteDance) or TikTok Pte. Ltd. (TikTok).

If you receive services from ByteDance:

ByteDance is required to charge VAT at the prevailing rate on your purchase of advertising services. If you are a corporate advertiser and have provided a valid South Korean Business Registration Number, you will receive an electronic tax invoice (e-VAT invoice), which can be used for your tax filing purposes.

If you receive services from TikTok:

TikTok is required to determine, collect, and remit VAT in South Korea on the supply of cross-border digital services to South Korean customers. If you are a corporate advertiser in South Korea and provide a valid 10-digit Business Registration Number, VAT will not be charged on your invoice and you will be responsible for self-accounting, reporting, and remitting VAT under the reverse charge mechanism. If a valid Business Registration Number is not provided, VAT at the prevailing rate will be charged on your invoice.

You may update your Business Registration Number by following the instructions provided here.

Please note that ByteDance / TikTok will not retrospectively adjust invoices issued before these details are provided. If incorrect or invalid information is submitted, ByteDance / TikTok reserves the right to reassess and charge VAT on prior transactions.

Note: TikTok is unable to advise you on tax matters. Please contact your tax advisor or your local tax authorities for any tax questions that you may have in relation to your Ad purchase.
