How to Set Up Showtimes

Before you start: Once created, you cannot update the Showtimes page. However, you can create a copy of the page to make edits on.

  • ​Remember to rename any copies to indicate the version history to ensure that you're using the latest version. (for example: version 1, version 2).

How to set up Showtimes

Steps to set up Showtimes are grouped into two parts:

1. Create your Showtimes Page in Assets.

2. Set up your Ad Campaign and attach the Showtimes page at the Ad-level.

Step 1: Create your Showtimes Page

  1. ​In TikTok Ads Manager, click the Assets tab and select Instant Pages. This opens the "Instant experience" page.

2. ​Click the Create button to build your "TikTok Instant Page".

3. ​You'll see a variety of templates. Select the Showtimes template and click Confirm.

  • ​On the right-hand side, the "Mobile view" panel displays a sample of the Showtimes template, which includes the movie trailer, movie title, release date, PG rating, location search features, theaters, and showtimes.

  • ​Users can watch the trailer on autoplay, change their search location, select a showtime, and choose a check-out partner.


4. ​When you click Confirm, you'll be redirected to the "Showtimes" page where you can start customizing the template.

5. Click the pencil icon to edit the title of your Showtimes page.

6. ​Input your IMDB ID and click Apply. This ID populates necessary information on the"Showtimes" page that users need to see, such as movie details (e.g. Title, release date, and rating) and showtimes.

  • ​The IMDB ID should match the 7-or 8-digit ID in the URL after "tt".

  • If your IMDB ID doesn't work, please check that you have the latest ID by going to the IMDB website. Read FAQs for Showtimes for more information on how to troubleshoot IMDB ID issues. 

7. ​Click the Header dropdown. The header will appear at the top of your Showtimes page. You can change this to text or a logo.

  • ​For Text, we recommend using the movie title or your studio name.

  • ​For Logo, we recommend using a horizontal for visibility. The image must be <5mb.

  • ​Click the Video dropdown and add your trailer.


8. ​Click the Update pencil icon to add the trailer.

  • Note: Supported file types are MOV or MP4 and size is up to 100MB. While there are no video length requirements, we recommend less than 2 minutes for optimal load times.

9. Click the Movie details dropdown and ensure the pre-populated details are correct.

10. Under "Ticketing", select your Movie ticketing partner options.

  • ​Choose either "All ticketing partners" or "Fandango only".

  • ​Offered partners are AMC, Atom Tickets, ​Movietickets.com​, Fandango, Cinemark, and Regal.

  • ​Watch the GIFs below for an overview on how to use "All ticketing partners" and "Fandango-only".

Note: The user experience differs slightly depending on the selected Ticketing Partner option.


11. All Ticketing Partners

The All ticketing partner option allows users to select an eligible ticketing partner of their choice for a showtime.


If you choose All ticketing partners and click Complete, you'll see a notification that you've created your Instant Page and are ready to start creating ads.

12. ​ Fandango-only

The Fandango-only option will drive users directly to Fandango when a showtime is selected.


If you choose Fandango-only, you have the option to enter your Fandango UTM parameter. Please ensure to preview and test your UTM macro.

  • ​Enter the UTM parameter ONLY: everything after the original URL and “?”

    • ​For example, if your original URL is www.yoursite.com/page, your UTM is www.yoursite.com/page?utm_source=active%20users

    • ​Preview the UTM Macro: Copy and paste the link into your web browser. Once the link redirects you to a Fandango Ticket Quantity Page (TQP), check the new URL to ensure that the UTM parameters are still attached and in the same format as your desired UTM macro.

    • Test your UTM Ensure your UTMs are working correctly by previewing and testing your Fandango UTM:Preview the ad on your mobile device and go through the user flow right until purchase. Learn more about how to preview ads. Check your Fandango data and make sure the events are firing and being captured correctly. 

Note: Fandango UTMs should be set up directly with Fandango. Fandango may not support custom UTMs or special characters (e.g. colons). If you have issues with your UTM, please reach out to your Fandango contact to ensure they’ve implemented it correctly.


13. ​ Click Confirm or View Assets. You will see your newly created Showtimes page listed under the "Instant experience" page.

Step 2: Set up your Ad Campaign, Ad Group, and Ad

1. ​Set up your Campaign.

  • ​Choose your advertising objective from Reach, Traffic, Video View, or Website Conversion.

2. ​Set up your Ad group.

  • ​Under "Website", click TikTok Instant Page.

  • ​Under "Set Optimization Event", click the Click Button.

  • ​Under "Targeting", go to "Demographics", and select US only.

    • Note: Showtimes only supports target audiences in the US.

  • ​Under "Budget & Schedule", set your Daily budget and a Date range.

  • ​Under "Bidding & Optimization", select Optimization Goal, and select Lowest Cost for conversion objective.

  • ​On the bottom left, click the Next button to set up the ad.


3. Set up your Ad.

  • ​Follow the steps to the Destination page and select the Instant Page From Library.

  • ​Select the Showtimes page that you've created.

Note: When using the Conversion objective, your page may see an “incompatibility” error for your Showtimes page. This can be resolved by making a copy of the Showtimes page.


And you're done! You can send your Campaign ID to your TikTok point of contact to let them know you’re all set up.
