Copy an Ad
Last updated, January 2024

In addition to copying ad groups, TikTok also supports copying ads. This is a fast and convenient way to reuse an existing ad.

When copying an ad, it will duplicate its current settings, however, these settings can be edited if needed. Please also be aware of the following before copying an ad:

  • Copying the same ad multiple times to an ad group is supported, but copying multiple ads to different ad groups is currently not supported.

  • Copying an ad to or from a campaign that is running a split test is currently not supported.

  • You cannot activate the split test feature while copying an ad to a new campaign.

  • You can copy an ad from a campaign using Automated Creative Optimization (ACO). However, you can only copy the ad to a non-ACO campaign. Once copied, the ad will be considered a standard creative and not an ACO creative.

  • The copied ad will go into review after it is duplicated, however, this won't affect the performance of the original ad you copied from.

How to Copy an Ad

  1. Go to Campaigns and click the Ad tab.

  2. Click Copy under the ad you want to duplicate.

    • Note: Ads that are in the review or rejected status are also able to be copied.

  3. A pop-up will appear. Toggle the number of copies you want to create.

    • Note: There is a maximum of 50 ads per ad group. For example, if copying an ad to an existing ad group that currently has 2 ads in it, you may toggle up to 48 copies of the ad, since the 2 current ads in the ad group plus the 48 new ads waiting to be copied equals 50 - the ad limit per ad group.

  4. Select whether you want to copy the ad to a new campaign or an existing campaign.

How to Copy to a New Campaign

  1. Select New Campaign, click Confirm.

  2. A notification will appear for the settings. Read and click Continue.

  3. This will open up the campaign settings. Continue through the setup process and make any edits as needed to your campaign, ad group, or ad.

    • Note: The campaign, ad group, and ad settings will be retained based on the original ad you selected to copy.

  4. Review the ad details and click Submit to copy your ad into a new campaign and ad group.

    • Note: When copying an ad, if the ad's current format does not meet the requirements for the selected placements in the ad group, the content may be empty on the ad details page. In these situations, you may need to upload or select your creative material again.

    • For Example,

      • When copying an image ad to an ad group that has TikTok selected as the Placement, the creative will not appear on the ad details page in the setup process because image ads cannot run on TikTok.

      • When copying an image ad to an ad group that has Automatic Placements selected, the TikTok placement will not appear on the ad details page in the setup process because image ads cannot run on TikTok.

How to Copy to an Existing Campaign

  1. Select Existing Campaign and select a campaign from the drop-down menu.

    • Note: Currently the system can only copy ads to campaigns that have the same objective. For example, if you want to copy an ad that belongs to a conversion campaign, it can only be copied to another conversion campaign.

  2. Select whether you wish to copy the ad to a new ad group or select an existing ad group from the dropdown menu. Existing ad groups shown will be dependent upon the existing campaign you selected in the previous step. Then, click Confirm.

    • Note: When copying an ad to a new ad group, the system will automatically rename the ad group based on the current ad group name + system code.

  3. A notification will appear regarding the settings. Read and click Continue.

  4. This will open up the ad group settings. Continue through the setup process and make any edits as needed to your ad group or ad.

    • Note: The ad group and ad settings will be retained based on the original ad you selected to copy.

  5. Review the ad details and click Submit to copy your ad into a new ad group.
