How to update your TikTok Direct Message permission for TikTok Messaging Ads

In order to run TikTok Direct Messaging Ads, you will need to set your TikTok Direct Message permission set to Everyone. You can update the setting in TikTok Ads Manager or in the TikTok App.

How to edit your message settings in the TikTok App

  1. Log into your TikTok App and go to Profile. Click on the three-line icon in the top right corner.

  2. Select Settings and privacy.

  3. Select Privacy.

  4. Select Messaging.

  5. Click into the text field next to Messaging.

  6. Set permission to Everyone.

How to edit your message settings in TikTok Ads Manager

Scenario 1: Your TikTok Ads Manager account has been linked with a TikTok account and you have the authorization to manage privacy settings.

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager and create a Campaign.

  2. In the Ad level, select Identity.

  3. Check the box to update your business account's direct messaging settings to Everyone.

Scenario 2: Your TikTok Ads Manager account has never been linked to a TikTok account.

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager and create a Campaign.

  2. In the Ad level, select Identity.

  3. Click on Link account.

  4. Sign in with your TikTok Business Account account and authorize linkage.

  5. Check the box to update your business account's direct messaging settings to Everyone.

Scenario 3: Your TikTok Ads Manager account has been linked to a TikTok account before, but you don't have the right authorizations to manage privacy settings.

  1. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager and create a Campaign.

  2. In the Ad level, select Identity.

  3. Click Get authorization on the pop-up.

  4. A new authorization site should load. Click on Authorize to gain permission.

  5. Check the box to update your Business Account's direct messaging settings to Everyone.
