TikTok has upgraded the Deep Funnel Optimization (DFO) solution from dual-event optimization to multi-stage event optimization for CRM events. With the previous event mapping solution, campaigns only optimized toward and reported on single stage events. With this upgrade, your campaigns now optimize across all deeper funnel events (Stages 2–4), giving richer signals to find high-value customers. A "stage" is a step in the lead funnel (for example, form submit → qualified lead → CRM conversion) that defines the optimization target for your campaign. You can have multiple events at the same stage
Note: DFO is evolving into an automated backend strategy and will no longer appear as a standalone option in the campaign creation flow. If you’ve already used the previous event mapping solution, you can manually opt in to the new event mapping experience. Once the update is live in your account, only newly created or duplicated campaigns will automatically follow the new flow. Existing DFO campaigns created before the upgrade will not be affected and will continue running without interruption.
If you haven't used the previous event mapping solution, any newly created or duplicated lead gen campaigns will be upgraded to the new solution.
Smarter delivery: By capturing events deeper in the funnel (Stages 3 and 4), the system better understands your ideal customer profile, which helps improve overall traffic quality and drive conversions.
More accurate conversion tracking: You may notice an improvement in your reported conversions and a lower cost per acquisition (CPA).
No double-counting: The system uses advanced deduplication. If a user completes Stage 2, 3, and 4 in sequence, the journey counts as one conversion.
Captured value: If a user skips Stage 2 and completes Stage 3 or 4 directly, the previous system may not have reported these actions. The upgraded system captures and reports them properly, giving you a true picture of your return on ad spend.
For advertisers with existing DFO campaigns using CRM signals, click the Switch Funnel button in the banner on the TikTok Events Manager to apply the new CRM event mapping logic to your existing setup.
